Top tier Breidablik took on second level Afturelding at the national stadium in Reykjavik.
The fans of both teams turned out in decent numbers such that the start had to be delayed to allow them all to enter prior to kickoff.
They would produce a lively atmosphere, grouped together in the main stand.
Since its inauguration in 1960 this competition has been dominated by the leading Icelandic club, KR Reykjavik.
But on this occasion they had exited at the Round of 16 stage, leaving Breidablik (bidding for only their second title) and the lesser known Afturelding, who were taking part in their first-ever final, to battle it out.
In the end it was the higher ranked team who would go in to celebrate.
Breidablik led early, when their captain,Gunnlaugsson created space and scored at the near post.
They would go on to dominate most of the first period with forward Ulfarsson having a couple of good chances to add another.
Eventually it was 2-0 when a corner broke to top scorer Kristinsson who delivered a left foot finish.
In the first 45 Breidablik’s higher level quality had definitely told.
But the well supported UMFA did have much more play in the second half, especially through Sigurdsson and they would get one back on 75 when Saevarsson’s cross went in off a defender for 2-1.
However, that was as near as they got since the men in white held on for their first Cup title since 2009.
