Botofogo remain on course for their third Serie A title and their first since 1995 after they beat America-MG.

Lucio Flavio’s charges won in Belo Horizonte thanks to a double from Junior Santos despite producing far fewer efforts at goal.

Twelve clear with eleven games remaining it is surely Botafogo’s title to lose.

Chasing them, possibly forlornly, are the young RB Bragantino side guided by Pedro Caixinha and a mix of heavyweights including Flamengo,  champions Palmeiras, and Luis Suarez’ Gremio.

Meanwhile, in danger at the other end of the table are some other heavyweights notably Corinthians, Vasco da Gama, and Pele’s old club, Santos.

Botafogo’s Tiquinho Soares, a multiple player of the month, leads the scorers, and their goalie Lucas Perri, having conceded only 17, tops the clean sheets table.

Thus highlighting why the Estrela Solitaria currently lead the way in the Brazilian Serie A.
